SCATS is an area-based adaptive traffic control system using traffic lights, one of the two most widespread in the world. In total, it controls more than 55 thousand intersections on six continents. In Poland, it has been implemented by Sprint S.A. in 10 cities, and serves about 600 intersections. Supplemented with additional functionality within the SPRINT/ITS/SCATS traffic management system.
In Poland SCATS is applied in ITS systems ranging from a few traffic lights (Ostrołęka) to over 250 traffic lights (Łódź).
Globally, there are up to four thousand traffic lights (Sydney, Shanghai).
