ITS

Design and implementation of the Intelligent Traffic Management System in Chorzów, through execution of relevant technical documentation (projects), execution of construction works, delivery of hardware and software solutions, was the essence of the contract. The project was implemented with the European Union funding, as part of the Regional Operational Programme of the Silesian Voivodeship for 2014-2020 in the formula of Integrated Territorial Investments of the Central Subregion of the Silesian Voivodeship.

ITS in Chorzów is designed to improve traffic mainly in public transport, but also in individual transport.

MULTI-SYSTEMS COOPERATION

The city's traffic management system comprehensively supports a number of subsystems, including in particular the linear traffic control and management subsystem. Drivers receive a variety of information, including traffic conditions in the city and alternative routes, or free parking spaces, thanks to variable message signs and parking information, as well as a dedicated website or mobile application. Furthermore, Sprint S.A. implemented a video surveillance system for intersections, including delivery of cameras for automatic recognition of license plates. In addition, dynamic scales to detect overloaded vehicles were installed along with weather stations to provide information on the condition of the road surface.

The scope of the contract included:

1. Design, construction, delivery, and installation of elements of the Traffic Management System (TMS) including all components necessary for the interoperability of the following subsystems:

·         Traffic signal and variable message sign control subsystem.

·         Public transport priority subsystem.

·         Traffic event management and license plate reading subsystem.

·         Archive, analysis, planning, and traffic situation information subsystem.

·         Dynamic driver information subsystem, including parking information, active radar signs, and variable message signs.

·         Weather data subsystem.

·         Traffic vehicle preweighting subsystem.

2. Tuning the Traffic Management System to achieve the functionality and usability required by this program.

3. Training the Orderer’s staff to ensure independent operation and ongoing maintenance of the TMS.

4. Preparing the technical infrastructure (optical fiber network, CNR) for the target territorial and hardware expansion.
