10.01.2020 the authorities of Opole and representatives of Sprint signed a contract for the construction of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). It will be allocated approx. 37.8 million Polish Zloty. Completion is scheduled for the last quarter of 2021. Opole received funding for these investments from the European Union.
The basis of the ITS system will be traffic monitoring devices at 49 of the busiest intersections throughout the city. Based on the measurements, the system will be able to determine where traffic jams are formed, and thus adjust the light cycles at other intersections to relieve congestion and improve communication.
As part of the investment, there will also be, among all, the system of Parking information about available places and pointing drivers at them, which will help a specially created mobile app. In strategic locations, electronic placards with variable content will be installed to inform about the optimal travel routes, weather stations that measure the level of noise and pollution, as well as cameras for monitoring the passage of cars. Police and city guards will have access to the surveillance footage. Everything will be connected to the Traffic Control Center and Public Transport, which will be located in the Science and Technology Park.
